Fetus on Gauze

You might remember a while back I posted a photo of a miscarried 15-week fetus on a piece of gauze. Well here is one at 16 weeks. Two totally different occurances. I think the other one looks more "fleshed-out", but its hard to compare when there is very little for size reference. However, the doctor who originally posted the picture in this post said it was "as long as my little finger". Who knows what size his fingers are, though. Some references I read say that the crown-to-rump length is 4.4 to 4.8 inches at this stage and another says a total length (including legs, that is) is about 6 inches.

Here is a bigger version of this photo. It is 8 from the right of the series.

It depends on the size of the gauze pad as to what the size of the fetus actually is. That could be a 4x4 or a 2x2 pad.

Either way it's a shame...

Heya weasle! :)

I think it is a 4x4 because it is a 15 week or 16 week and from what I read they are about 4 1/2 inches crown to rump and 6 total, so curled up in the fetal position like it is- ha ha- its probably on a 4x4.

If this is a miscarried fetus, chances are, it is not of the same gestational age as the time it was miscarried ie: the fetus could be 13 weeks old, but the miscarriage didn't happen until 16 weeks.

I am confident this little baby is younger than 16 weeks. I delivered babies at 17 weeks and 2 days, and they were far more developed than this little one. Also, at 17 weeks, my babies were over 8 inches long - much bigger than anyone's pinkie finger (and of course a fetus could not grow four inches in a week).

It's cute! But it looks gelatinous.

ok... one I was looking for pictures of what a fetus at 8 weeks would look like in my tummy.. but then that shit pops up.. I understand and know that losing a child.. not being able to experience having a life growing inside you and not being able to have the child and holding him or her.. but on a piece of gauze like its someones science project and not an unborn child that didnt have the chance at LIFE!?!?!? sorry to ME thats just cruel...

there is no way this is a 16 week fetus. My sister just delivered a 16 weeker and it was much more developed than this one. Its sad for whoever lost this tiny baby...but it does show the miracle of life.

People, stop complaining about this picture. It may be disturbing but it's important that we see this. This is real life, it happens to people and it's very sad. This is no worse than the anti-abortion people who post disgusting pictures of MANGLED babies all over my college. I'm not even against abortion in certain cases, and THAT, I believe, is truly horrible. This is not.

I am about to lose my baby and am making preperations as i type this for my unborn child, to be honest this pic has helped me understand what my baby will look like when born , mine will be 16 weeks but baby has severe disability and would not be fair to the baby to bring into this world. I am devasted and i dont stop crying but this pic helps and i dont think it is sick its just reality:(

I had an abortion 14 weeks into it, had no idea I was pregnant since I was on the pill and still had my period.

I was in a shock state when I was starting to have morning sickness and my body started to "prepare" for a baby and I then questioned the possibility and after a test found out I was in fact pregnant.

I have read about girls not knowing but to be honest I´ve always thoufht that to be bullshit. Well sooner or later you know something is up with your body, no matter the odds like in my case. Anyway, to me having to go through an abortion 14 weeks into it (even more shocking) it helps to see this. It does hurt a bit knowing the fetus had started to look like a person, but it also very very much apprichiated to know. I want to know and these drawings and imaginary pictures in the books could really be anything.

So thank you whom ever you are for posting this, for letting me know. For helping me....

(to those who find it....well to those who are hurt by this photo; we are all different and it may heal some and so If you dont like it, well stay away from it, like anything else you don´t like...)

but once again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you...it does help me =)

Dear pi3rc3...

The reason the baby is on gauze is because it´s probably the nicest, cleanest thing in the operation room, would u rather have them put it on the metal table for the knifes etc...I think this is the nicest way you can put down someone who ended their life way too early when in a sterile operation room....

as you can see to many this has been very educational and helpful. Maybe you should stop your commenting since it seems to only stand for you and let things be. You do realize that all dioctorn including the one that will deliver you have stood standing cutting up bodies to learn and that for doctors etc dead fetuses is only a way of life...it happens all the time..

please try to hinder yourself for commenting so...well so explicit before thinking it over. It is simple..

hello, while this may be hard or disturbing for some to see, i just lost my baby boy. and this has brought some closure to my heart... it still hurts so very badly but this for 1 is educational for some, and 2 helpful to some. if others have a problem, then please go to another site immediately. it is insulting to doctors, and very painful for some mothers who have lost their babies to read demeaning coments left on things such as this photo.
thank you for posting this, it has helped me in seeing it. i needed a form of closure since i, as well as others im sure, didnt get to hold their baby, let alone watch them live and grow up. thank you,
-Z

I can see how this picture can offend some people, its tragic to see. I was also just looking for pics of my 11 week old fetus in womb. Its sad and i am sorry this lil one didnt make it whether from abortion or miscarriage. I am a nurse and ghese kind of pics still make me uneasy. The only comment that really sickened me was the asshole who said they want to play finger football with it. Shame on u!!!

Im sorry but my son was stillborn at 16 weeks, Utah law changed from 20 weeks to 16 weeks and up for stillborn... this little baby is definitely younger then 16 weeks, my son was 10 inches long for 16 weeker, yes he was super longer but was more developed then this little guy...
